To my friends-
To be honest for awhile I didn't know how to best express my feelings regarding my departure. When one leaves- it is hard to verbally acknowledge how you feel- and tell others how they have touched your life. But I finally did find a way -- and it was the only way I knew how....the creative way I guess....and it was to write a song on my guitar. Some of you are probably wondering- Josh plays guitar? We thought he was just some karaoke nut... Actually- I used to play guitar a lot before I came to DC. The last song I wrote was back in 2001-- which I played live at a show in Austin, TX for an old girlfriend of mine. Although I wouldn't necessarily equate you all as a girlfriend (I know Thom Wright is upset by this), I haven't been inspired since then to write something as intimate as I recently composed.
I hope you realize this piece touches me every time that I have played it.....and although I hoped to have played it for more of you before I left--time has unfortunately become my enemy. When you read the lyrics below, know that this song is a celebration of us....and that I am eternally grateful that we met and became friends. I do hope we keep in touch-- and I hope to see you all again- very soon...
